Project Details
The current alignment of the streets for Route 28, Route 287 to CR 525 (Thompson Avenue) creates safety concerns due to narrow lanes widths, absence of a median barrier, the significant number of left turns from numerous commercial driveways, and the proximity of the I-287 Interchange. To improve this condition, the proposed Final Design includes the following:
For Route 28:
ADA compliance including upgraded curb ramps and crosswalks
The roadway will be resurfaced and restriped
Construction of a raised median curb island west of Tea Street intersection
Three-foot shoulders
Improved guide rails
Improved storm water management
For the Tea Street Intersection:
Addition of exclusive left turn lanes along both eastbound and westbound approaches of Route 28
New traffic signals and timing to include new turn lanes
Roadway widening along Route 28
For the Thompson Avenue Intersection:
Exclusive left turn lanes along Route 28 eastbound
New traffic signals and timing to include new turn lane
Modifying the curb to accommodate truck traffic
Concept Development Phase: Completed in Spring 2019
Preliminary Engineering Phase: Completed in Spring 2023
Final Design Phase: Complete Summer 2025
Construction: Spring 2026 to 2027
